Weather Direct uses your selected location to find forecasts, alerts, radar views, current conditions, and tropical storm context for your area. You can use device location or manually search for a city/place.
Privacy, without the fine-print fog.
Weather Direct is designed without accounts, ads, analytics SDKs, tracking SDKs, or server-side weather profiles. Your location is used to request weather for your area, not to build an advertising profile.
The practical version.
Weather Direct is intentionally small in what it asks from you and explicit about what public services may receive to return weather for your area.
Weather Direct requests data from public and official weather-related sources where available, including National Weather Service / NOAA APIs, NOAA/NWS radar services, National Hurricane Center public tropical storm data, and public geocoding or mapping services needed for app functionality.
Weather Direct is for general weather awareness. Weather data and alert notifications may be delayed, unavailable, incomplete, or affected by public-source outages, device settings, network availability, or operating-system background restrictions.
Weather Direct does not require a Weather Direct account or sign-in.
Weather Direct does not include advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, tracking SDKs, Firebase, CloudKit sync, advertising identifiers, or cross-app tracking profiles.
Weather Direct stores app data locally on the device in app-private storage. Local data may include selected location metadata, cached weather, notification preferences, seen-alert records, onboarding state, and app settings.
Weather Direct may request location permission and notification permission. You can deny location permission and use manual location search. You can deny notification permission and still use in-app weather surfaces.

Privacy Policy for Weather Direct
Weather Direct is built to give you direct, uncluttered access to weather information without accounts, advertising, analytics, or tracking. This Privacy Policy explains what information Weather Direct uses, how that information is handled, and what choices you have.
1. Overview
Weather Direct is a web and Apple-platform weather app that provides local forecasts, current conditions, alerts, source-aware weather maps, and tropical storm information without requiring a Weather Direct account.
Weather Direct does not sell personal information or use advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, tracking SDKs, Firebase, or CloudKit sync. Weather data comes from official public providers. A bounded cache bridge supports MET Norway, NHC, and TMD browser compatibility, and a separate native alert relay supports APNs delivery.
2. Information Weather Direct Uses
Weather Direct may use the following information to provide app functionality.
Location Information
Weather Direct uses your location to find relevant forecasts, alerts, radar views, current conditions, and tropical storm context for your area.
You may provide location in one of two ways:
- By allowing the app to use your device location.
- By manually searching for a city or place.
Location request handling
When device location is enabled, Weather Direct may use your latitude and longitude on your device to request weather data from public weather, geocoding, radar, and mapping services. Weather Direct does not use your location to create an account, build an advertising profile, or track you across apps or websites.
Weather Direct does not store a server-side location history. The MET Norway browser cache rounds coordinates to three decimal places, disables access logging, and stores no account or location-history record.
Weather Data Requests
To provide forecasts, alerts, current conditions, radar, and tropical storm information, Weather Direct requests data directly from official public weather sources and related public map/radar services. These requests may include location coordinates, forecast zone information, radar map areas, or other technical request details needed to return local weather data.
Weather Direct uses these requests only to provide app functionality.
Local App Data
Weather Direct stores app data locally on your device so the app can load quickly, preserve your preferences, and continue showing recent weather information when a network request fails.
Local data may include:
- Your last selected location metadata.
- Cached current conditions.
- Cached forecast and hourly forecast data.
- Cached alert information.
- Cached tropical storm information.
- Radar-related display state.
- Notification preferences.
- Seen-alert records used to avoid duplicate notifications.
- Onboarding completion state.
- App settings and preferences.
Local app data handling
This information is stored in app-private browser or device storage. It is not uploaded to a Weather Direct account or server-side forecast profile.
Notifications
The web app does not request browser notification permission in this release. The native Apple app may ask for notification permission and may deliver local or APNs notifications for new or materially changed official alerts.
The native alert relay stores encrypted APNs delivery tokens, official alert-zone identifiers, enabled categories, and timestamps. It does not receive coordinates, city names, accounts, or forecast data.
Alert delivery is best effort and remains subject to public-source, network, APNs, device, and operating-system limits.
3. Information Weather Direct Does Not Collect
Weather Direct does not collect or create:
- User accounts.
- Passwords.
- Advertising identifiers.
- Analytics identifiers.
- Cross-app tracking profiles.
- Payment information.
- Contact lists.
- Photos or media libraries.
- Messages.
- Health data.
- Financial data.
- Private documents.
- AI chat history.
- Social profiles.
No ad or tracking SDKs
Weather Direct does not include ads, behavioral advertising, analytics SDKs, or tracking SDKs.
4. How Information Is Used
Weather Direct uses information only to provide and improve core app functionality, including:
- Finding your local forecast.
- Showing current conditions.
- Showing hourly and daily forecasts.
- Displaying weather alerts.
- Displaying regional radar or global satellite imagery.
- Displaying tropical storm information.
- Calculating sunrise and sunset.
- Saving app preferences.
- Avoiding duplicate alert notifications.
- Restoring recent weather data from local cache.
- Supporting basic app reliability and security.
No advertising or profiling
Weather Direct does not use your information for advertising, user profiling, sale of personal information, or tracking across unrelated apps or websites.
5. Sharing of Information
Weather Direct does not sell your personal information.
Weather Direct may send necessary request information, such as location coordinates or map viewport information, directly from your browser or device to official weather, geocoding, radar, satellite, or mapping services so the app can return weather information for your area.
MET Norway browser forecasts pass through a fixed same-origin cache route using coordinates rounded to three decimal places. Access logging is disabled for that route, and it stores no account or location history. Fixed NHC and TMD compatibility routes also cannot proxy arbitrary URLs.
The native Apple alert relay may receive encrypted APNs device tokens, official alert-zone identifiers, enabled alert categories, and timestamps solely for warning and watch delivery. It does not receive coordinates, city names, accounts, or forecast data.
These services may receive standard technical information associated with internet requests, such as IP address, user agent, request time, and requested endpoint. Their handling of that information is governed by their own policies and technical practices.
Weather Direct may also interact with Apple, your browser, or your device operating system for normal functions such as installation, permissions, notifications, crash handling provided by the operating system, and distribution.
The Clairos Group may disclose information only if required to comply with applicable law, legal process, or enforceable governmental request.
6. Third-Party and Public Data Sources
Weather Direct uses public and official weather-related data sources to provide app functionality. These may include sources such as:
- National Weather Service / NOAA weather APIs and radar services.
- MET Norway global forecast APIs.
- Environment and Climate Change Canada alerts and radar.
- Deutscher Wetterdienst alerts and radar.
- EUMETNET OPERA and KNMI European radar sources.
- Thai Meteorological Department radar imagery.
- NOAA/NESDIS global satellite imagery.
- National Hurricane Center public tropical storm data.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim for submitted location searches.
- OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap for browser map display.
- Apple platform services required for native location, notifications, app permissions, distribution, and operating-system features.
Provider approach
Weather Direct avoids third-party weather-provider lock-in and does not use third-party advertising or analytics services.
7. Data Retention
Weather Direct stores app data locally on your device for as long as needed to provide app functionality, preserve preferences, and maintain cached weather behavior.
You can remove locally stored Weather Direct data by clearing site storage in your browser or deleting the native app. Depending on your settings and operating-system behavior, permissions or system-level records may also be managed through browser or device settings.
Because Weather Direct does not operate a user-account backend, The Clairos Group does not maintain a server-side account profile for you to delete.
8. Your Choices
You can control Weather Direct privacy-related behavior through your device and app settings.
You may:
- Allow or deny location permission.
- Use manual location search instead of device GPS.
- Change your selected location.
- Enable or disable notifications.
- Adjust notification filters.
- Disable background app refresh where supported by your operating system.
- Clear browser site storage or delete the native app to remove locally stored data.
- Manage app permissions through browser, iOS, or iPadOS settings.
Permission effects
If you deny location permission, some local weather functionality may require manual location search.
If you deny notification permission, Weather Direct can still show weather information inside the app, but it will not be able to send local weather alert notifications.
9. Security
Weather Direct is designed to minimize the amount of personal information involved in the app. The app avoids accounts, advertising identifiers, analytics identifiers, and backend profile storage.
Local app data is stored in app-private storage. Weather requests are made over standard encrypted HTTPS connections when supported by the requested service.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but Weather Direct is intentionally built with a limited data footprint to reduce privacy risk.
10. Children's Privacy
Weather Direct is not directed to children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to The Clairos Group through Weather Direct, contact us at support@clairos.ai.
11. Weather and Emergency Safety
Weather Direct provides weather information for convenience and awareness. It is not a replacement for official emergency alert systems, Wireless Emergency Alerts, NOAA Weather Radio, local emergency management alerts, or instructions from public safety officials.
Weather data may be delayed, unavailable, incomplete, or affected by public-source outages, device settings, network availability, or operating-system background restrictions.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
The Clairos Group may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When changes are made, the updated policy will include a new Last Updated date.
Continued use of Weather Direct after an updated Privacy Policy is posted means you accept the updated policy.
